How Long Does Facial Waxing Last? What to Expect Between Appointments

    By Mary Hegedus·2026-08-30

There is no exact universal timeline for how long facial waxing lasts because hair growth varies by area and by person. Waxing removes hair from the root, which means the skin stays smoother for longer than it would with shaving, but it does not permanently stop hair growth. Regrowth timing depends on the facial area and your individual hair-growth pattern.

How Long Does Facial Waxing Last?

In general, facial waxing keeps the skin smooth for a stretch of time before the hair begins to grow back. Because the hair is removed from the root, regrowth usually feels softer than stubble from shaving. But there is no single number that applies to everyone. Some areas grow back faster than others, and your own growth pattern plays a big role.

    Why Does Regrowth Timing Vary?

Regrowth varies for a few reasons. Different areas of the face have different hair-growth patterns. Your individual growth cycle, how consistently you maintain the area, and how your hair responds to waxing all affect how soon you will want to rebook. This is completely normal and does not mean the wax did not work.

Which Areas Can Be Facial Waxed?

At Makeup By Mary LLC, facial waxing is available for the upper lip, chin, sideburns, or the full face. The Upper Lip Wax is a quick option for unwanted hair above the lip. The Chin Wax focuses on chin hair removal. The Sideburn Wax cleans up the side areas of the face. And the Full Face Wax is a more complete option for clients who want multiple facial areas cleaned up in one appointment.

Is Facial Waxing the Same as Brow Waxing?

No. Brow shaping is booked through Brow Services, not Facial Waxing. If you want your brows mapped, shaped, or waxed, that is a separate category with its own service options.

Can You Get Facial Waxing Before Makeup or an Event?

Facial waxing can create a smoother canvas for makeup, photos, and events. That said, some clients notice temporary redness or sensitivity after waxing, so it is smart to give your skin a little time to settle before a big event rather than waxing immediately beforehand.

What Should You Avoid Before Facial Waxing?

Pay attention to active skincare and recent treatments. Avoid retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and glycolic acid for 5 to 7 days before waxing, as these can thin the skin and increase the risk of irritation. Do not exfoliate on the day of the appointment, and do not wax compromised or irritated skin.

If you take blood-thinning medication or another prescribed medication that may affect bleeding or healing, check with your doctor or prescribing healthcare professional before making any changes. Do not stop prescribed medication unless they advise you to do so.

    When Should You Rebook?

Maintenance timing varies. Some clients rebook more frequently for certain areas, while others find they can go longer between appointments. The best approach is to pay attention to your own regrowth pattern and rebook when the hair has grown back enough to wax cleanly again. If you also need body waxing or facial skincare, those are booked separately so each service gets the time it needs.

    Ready to Book Facial Waxing?

Choose the facial area you want treated and book the service that fits your maintenance routine. Arrive with clean skin and review your prep before your appointment.
